BOG-INS - OTHER TRIPS

Ray K's bog-in on 26th August 1984

Ray K's bog-in towards Fitzroy on 26th August 1984

On Sunday 26th August 1984 some of us decided to visit the cove near Fitzroy. It was late in the winter season and the track looked black. At one point Ray K decided to take a detour which he could see some other landrovers had done.

He stopped beside a stream, got out, looked at about 1" of water over what looked like sand, prodded it with his foot, got back in and drove at about one mph into really soft stuff.

It wasn't that easy to pull him out because he had grounded, we were pulling up hill and the ground was greasy. We had to dig around the wheels and put some psp there, then do a snatch. Nylon ropes when snatched act like elastic and spring the vehicle back, if you're lucky.

Note the local farmer's landrover which just happened to come by at that moment. He came and gave Ray K some advice, no doubt thinking "those b....y contractors messing up my land again"

Only one deep pothole on this track which we all avoided for fifteen months,
until I decided to give it a go, with predictable results
