Are cattle mutilations carried out by aliens?

Cattle have been found mutilated in many countries, mainly the south west of USA. They have been drained of blood and had soft tissue like tongue and udders removed with very sharp cuts. Vets have said that the cuts are not from predators which would tear the flesh and leave a jagged wound. The animals seem to be lifted up from a pen at night and returned softly outside later with no disturbance to the surrounding ground.

One suggestion is that the military have removed the cattle from areas where nuclear bombs were exploded to test for radiation effects and want the keep this secret (and avoid payment) but have denied this.

Aliens are suspected of the mutilations to study DNA or to require blood for their nutrition. Perhaps aliens are infertile and want to restore their fertility.

Human abductions may be for the same reason, but generally humans are returned alive.
